ENDORSEMENTS

Living Hope is an inspiring and compelling look at how to walk out the Christian faith amid hardship. Josh Patrick shares that as humans and believers pain will be part of our reality—and that spiritual maturity is being able to hold two things at once: joy and sorrow. Josh’s wisdom of on this topic was birthed through his real-life experiences, both as a pastor and as one who “fought the good fight” through a cancer journey. His honesty and wisdom allow us to be mentored by him. This is a handbook for how to face our trials and do so in a way that demonstrates our faith in real-time and ultimately creates a legacy of giving the glory to God in all things.

Josh gave his entire life to the belief that God raising Jesus from the dead changed the entire course of human history. He lived, breathed, preached, and shared this good news. In Josh’s book Living Hope, we get a glimpse into the heart of a man who wanted everyone to know the hope of Jesus. If the entire Christian faith hangs on this historical event—and I believe it does—we can spend our days celebrating the joy we have in God’s defeat of death. Digest this book!

Josh Graves, author of The Simple Secret

Josh Patrick’s life and ministry epitomized hope. He talked to people individually about it, he preached corporately about it, and through his blog—and now adapted from sermons, this book—he wrote about it. Most importantly, Josh lived out God’s teaching on hope every day . . . even to the very last days of his life. I loved serving with him on the same staff at Harpeth Christian Church. I pray that the messages Josh has shared on hope from 1 Peter will change your life. This book is an inspiring and practical exposition that carefully follows the text of the first letter of the apostle Peter.

Bobby Harrington, lead pastor, Harpeth Christian Church; coauthor with Josh of The Disciple Maker’s Handbook

While experiencing complex trials of his own, Josh Patrick eloquently writes of the living hope of Christ aided by the perspective of the apostle Peter. This book is an engaging and inspiring read. Peter was not a man of great accomplishment but of great heart, making his perspective relatable and his lessons easily applicable. Living Hope epitomizes what it means to live with the hope of the risen Savior inside your heart.

Justin Moore, lead minister, Central Church of Christ, Athens, Alabama

The letter of 1 Peter contains a message for our times! Josh Patrick offers us a gift in his exposition of it. His exposition is informative, practical, passionate, and moving. Based on the sure hope of resurrection, Josh calls us to embrace following Jesus by becoming Jesus in a world hostile to Jesus. This is a wonderful resource for churches, classes, small groups, and families, as well as one’s own personal walk with God.

John Mark Hicks, retired professor of theology, Lipscomb University

Need hope? Look no further! Simple, instructive, and inspiring, this collection of adapted sermons from 1 Peter by Josh Patrick is a soul-nourishing feast of gospel hope. Full of wit and wisdom, Living Hope promises to lift the chin of every reader to behold again––or to behold for the first time––the never failing hope of the gospel.

DESCRIPTION

How do we as Christians stand firm in the face of trials? How do we find our identity in Christ, even when the fire comes? The late pastor Josh Patrick was no stranger to these questions.

Living Hope, adapted from Josh’s sermon series on 1 Peter, explores what the apostle Peter meant when he wrote that God “has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet. 1:3). Josh speaks through this book about how to become who we are called to be in Christ—a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession (1 Pet. 2:9)—and how to live that identity out through our relationships with our spouses, our church family, and even total strangers.

This book is an encouragement to Christians in all walks of life, undergoing all types of circumstances. Living Hope bolsters Christians to be beacons of hope and goodness in a world of darkness, letting go of our struggles, waking up to the challenges of our culture, and standing firm in our faith.

Meaningful title

There is much wisdom and encouragement from Josh's words in Living Hope. I could hear his voice in these written words. The interview regarding roles and responsibilities of marriage was transparent and very good.
